If a conversation continues
These pages document a set of capabilities we’ve built — and a set of ideas about how AI could fit into classification work. None of this assumes that Class NK will do anything.
If anything resonates and the conversation continues, we’d want to follow patterns Class NK already uses for engaging with technology — rather than propose anything new.
Class NK’s existing patterns
Class NK has worked with technology partners through a few well-established mechanisms:
- Innovation Endorsement (Digital · Environment · Safety · Labour categories) — 63 products and 6 providers certified to date, including Cydome, iO3, Navarino, MOL FOCUS, and Rakuten Maritime CYTUR
- Technology Qualification — the route used recently for Orca AI’s autonomous-ship perception, within the DFFAS+ project
- Joint Development Projects — long-running consortium work with NAPA, MTI, NYK, MOL, K-Line and yards on the Digital Twin Project
Whatever shape a future conversation might take, we’d want it to fit one of these existing frameworks. Class NK knows how to evaluate technology partners; we’d rather be assessed against patterns Class NK already trusts than propose anything bespoke.
How we work
A few things that may help frame what we are:
- A small team building substrate — we’re makers, not consultants. The orchestration layer and the agent teams we showed in the meeting are what we ship, day to day.
- Source-available code — anything we build, Class NK would own as code. Forkable, modifiable, no vendor lock.
- Internal hosting — Class NK’s data stays inside Class NK’s perimeter. The orchestration substrate runs on your VM.
- Working alongside NBS this week — NYK Business Systems is deploying the same substrate in Tokyo now. That deployment is the working reference for how we work.
Mimura-san’s 7-April note
When NBS first invited Class NK into this conversation, Mimura-san framed how he saw a future structure:
“In the future, we hope to establish a structure where NK hosts technical workshops, MetaWeave acts as a technical consultant, and companies like NYK/NBS participate as attendees.”
We share his hope. That structure — Class NK convening, MetaWeave contributing technically, owners attending — is the shape we’d find most natural if work continues.
Ways a conversation could continue
If there is interest, we have no preference about which direction. Three light options that may suit different timelines:
- A sandbox login — pre-loaded with the agent teams demonstrated in the meeting. No commitment in either direction; a way to feel the system at your own pace.
- A pre-discussion with the Digital Endorsement assessors — to understand what would be needed for the capabilities shown to be assessed against the Class NK framework.
- A working session at any time, in person or online, to take any specific thread further.
None of this needs to happen quickly. Class NK’s pace is the right pace.
